Devotion For The Week of November 5th-11th, 2012

Hello.  Today is Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012 - the day after!!!!  What is to come is is yet to be seen!  It's a beautiful day in Conway, SC.  Still a bit chilly but that's ok.  It's dry and breezy but beautiful.  No where else I'd rather be than in South Carolina.  I want to say thanks to all the voters for getting out and voting their choices.  This election deepens my desire to go into politics because it seems some Christians are losing faith that God is in CONTROL.

He will take care of His people, regardless of the outcome at the voting places.  Praise God!  Remember Jehovah-Jirah, He is our Provider.  God provides-not man.  But we must live, trust and obey our Heavenly Father!  There will be some sacrifices to make in our lives!

It's devotion time.  My devotion today is taken from Psalms 136:1-29 KJV.

Verse 5.  To Him that by wisdom made the heavens:  for his mercy endureth for ever.
Verse 6.  To Him that stretched out the earth above the waters:  for His mercy endureth for ever.
Verse 7.  To Him that made great lights:  for His mercy endureth for ever.
Verse 8.  The sun to rule by day:  for His mercy endureth for ever.
Verse 9.  The moon and stars to rule by night:  for His mercy endureth for ever.
Verse 10.  To Him that smote Egypt in their firstborn:    for His mercy endureth for ever.
Verse 11.  And brought out Israel from among them:  for His mercy endureth for ever.
Verse 12.  With a strong hand, and with a stretched out arm:  for His mercy endureth for ever.
Verse 13.  To Him which divided the Red Sea into parts:  for His mercy endureth for ever.
Verse 14.  And made Israel to pass through the midst of it:  for His mercy endureth for ever.
Verse 15.  But overthrew Pharaoh and his host in the Red Sea:  for His mercy endureth for ever.
Verse 16.  To Him which led His people through the wilderness:  for His mercy endureth for ever.
Verse 17.  To Him which smote great kings:  for His mercy endureth for ever.
Verse 18.  And slew famous kings:  for His mercy endureth for ever.
Verse 19.  Sihon king of the Amorites:  for His mercy endureth for ever.
Verse 20.  And Og the king of Bashan:  for His mercy endureth for ever.
Verse 21.  And gave their land for an heritage:  for His mercy endureth for ever.
Verse 22.  Even an heritage unto Israel his servant:  for His mercy endureth for ever.
Verse 23.  Who remembered us in our low estate:  for His mercy endureth for ever.
Verse 24.  And hath redeemed us from our enemies:  for His mercy endureth for ever.
Verse 25.  Who giveth food to all flesh:  for His mercy endureth for ever.
Verse 26.  O give thanks unto the God of heaven:  for His mercy endureth for ever.

Definitions of mercy:

1.  Price paid, wages, compassion shown to an offender.  Imprisonment rather than death for first degree murder.

2.  A blessing resulting from Divine favor or compassion.

 3.  Compassion shown to victims of misfortunes.

Our example is Jesus Christ.  He took our place of death on the cross.  He knew no sin.  He gave us mercy instead of what we deserved - the judgement of death.  Instead He gave us life, love, grace, mercy and more mercy.  How can we not give mercy to others who are not any less or more than we are.  God created each of us.  We are all different but part of the same family of God if we have truly accepted Jesus Christ as our Savior and made Him #1 in our lives.

This is the month to be especially thankful for all things; God, family, health, provisions, etc.  So many times we overlook the little things to be thankful for, such as how easy it was to get out of bed this morning, reach over and pick up a cup of coffee our spouse had poured for us, or, in my case, a drink of water.  To be able to watch the sun come up, whether over the ocean , from behind the mountain or from wherever, is something we too often take for granted.  These are precious gifts from God.  Let's start now being more thankful through our days and be constantly reminded that God is Holy and that HIS MERCY ENDURETH FOR EVER!!!
