Devotion For The Week of October 15th-21st, 2012
Today is Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2012.
What a beautiful morning to wake up to. 5:30 AM, weather is wonderful, 48 degrees and fair. Rain last night. Washed the dirt out of the air. No rain called for this day. Wow! This is the day the Lord hast made. I (let us) rejoice and be glad in it (Psalms 118:24).
Let's make it personal for each of us! Yahweh is responsible for this and it is amazing for us to see (Psalms 118:23). Yahweh is the Lord. His personal Hebrew name is Yahweh. Let Jesus Christ, Yahweh, be Lord of our lives!!! We re another day closer to His return for His bride. Are you ready?
A special thanks to my friend Abbi. You'll never know what a special blessing you have become to me. Thanks for the devotion on Oct. 10, 2012 on fear. It touched my heart. I know it did for others as well. People from around the world received it - from the Netherlands, Russia, Germany, United Kingdom, France and other countries. Also, my home country, the USA. Thank you all!!! It is so good to see you touching base weekly. I trust God that you receive something special from Him. Please remit your comments. I love to hear from you.
DEVOTION
Yahweh - Tsur The Lord my Rock (The Names of God Bible, God's Word Translation)
Scripture - Isaiah 26:3, 4; Psalms 62:1, 2; Psalms 95:1
Psalms 144, verses 1-7, The Soldier's Prayer by David quoted from The Names of God Bible
"Thank Yahweh, my Tsur, who trained my hands to fight and my fingers to do battle, my merciful one, my Metsuda, my stronghold, and my savior, my Magen, the one in whom I take refuge, and the one who brings people under my authority.
O Yahweh, what are humans that you should care about them? What are mere mortals that you should think about them? Humans are like a breath of air. Their life span is like a fleeting shadow>
O Yahweh, bend your heaven low, and come down. Touch the mountains, and they will smoke. Hurl bolts of lightning, and scatter them. Shoot your arrows, and throw them into confusion. Stretch out your hands from above. Snatch me, rescue me from raging waters and from foreigners' hands."
What better word than Rock to represent God's permanence, protection, and enduring faithfulness? Rocks provide shelter, shade, and safety in the wilderness and were used to construct altars, temples, houses and city walls. Heaps of stones were also used to commemorate important events in Israel's history. Gods commandments given to Moses were etched on stones so all would know these Laws until all these generations. The word rock epitomizes His enduring faithfulness.
The Hebrew noun Tsur is often translated "rock" or "stone while Petra is the Greek word for "rock". To worship Yahweh Tsur is to echo Hannah's great prayer of praise: "There is no Tsur like our Elohim". (1 Samuel 2:2, The Names of God Bible)
The New Testament identifies Jesus as the Spiritual Rock that accompanied the Israelites during their long journey through the desert. He is also the Stone the builders rejected but that has become the Cornerstone of God's church.
Edward Mote, a song writer, wrote in 1836 "My hope is built on nothing less-----. On Christ the solid Rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand, all other ground is sinking sand". When everything around us is sinking sand we can rely on a God who scripture calls "the Lord my Rock".
Let us pray:
Father, today we acknowledge You as our Rock. Please come into our lives. Forgive us of our sins. Cleanse us and renew us and make us anew. Plant our feet on the Solid Rock, on Your Foundation, where we can be sure we are to be safe in You. Thank You Jesus for salvation and all the benefits that come from serving You, Lord, our Rock. Help each of us to grow closer to You, Yahweh, day by day to be more like You and less like this world. Let the meditation of our hearts be like Yours and our lips be tendered as sweet as You would have them be. Thank You, Jesus. Amen
